SampleLouis: Are you going to come to my barbeque party this weekend?

Explanation: The phrase “run errands” means to go from place to place, completing small jobs and tasks.  We can also say “I have an errand to run” when we don’t want to give details about where we are going.

This week's Medical Phrase

cartilage

SamplePatient: I got hit in the side of the head with a baseball. Are any bones in my ear broken?

Doctor: No, the ball just bruised the cartilage on the outer part of the ear. It will heal quickly, and there is no need for further treatment. The cartilage is softer than bone, so it flexes with pressure. It’s similar to the tip of your nose.

Explanation:  The “cartilage” is the slightly soft material on the outside of the ear, the tip of the nose, and parts connecting the ribs.
