Abigale: "If we don't sell 50,000 units by 2013, the marketing department is going to pull the plug on our new product." Mark: "I think we can make that target by June of 2012. There's no reason to pull the plug." The phrase "pull the plug" comes from the idea of pulling an electrical cord out of the socket, stopping the electricity. So if we want to stop an activity or project, we say that we are going to pull the plug. We could also say we are going to "axe the project."
